TORRAIN was born in 2009 when founder, Nyla Jano visited a night market in Cambodia and was struck by a local woman, Sothea’s, innovative use of recycled materials. Sothea purchased discarded materials and then employed local families to wash, dry and sew them into colorful tote bags. Nyla quickly introduced herself and the two discussed a way for Nyla to design more products back home in Portland, Oregon, while providing an opportunity for Cambodian artisans to produce them at a fair wage and in the comfort of their own communities—TORRAIN was on its way. Today TORRAIN is a company that ensures the well-being of its artisans while encouraging unique and vibrant style paired with a global conscious.

 

TORRAIN bags are all handmade from durable, lightweight and water resistant bags previously used to transport cement and fish feed in Southeast Asia.
