The first form of plastic (celluloid) was invented in the mid 1800s to replace ivory and tortoise shell, used for billiard balls and combs and eventually became movie film and amped up the invention of sunglasses in the 1920s.
The original intent of plastic seemed to be environmentally sound yet it has become one of our biggest environmental catastrophes.
All of the plastic that has ever been made still exists today 😣
Our ocean, air and ecosystems have taken a huge hit and the health implications of the micro plastics in our bodies is not yet fully known.
The effect of single-use plastic production is becoming well known though 🙏
Big change needs to happen but we can all start on the ground level, taking small steps in our own lives.
